Where on Planet Earth is Cheryl?

Today is January 13,2022

As I write that, I think of Star Trek. They started every episode with Star Date…

I guess I could say Earth date January 13, 2022 and your wondering where on planet earth is Cheryl now, right?

I am in Ridgecrest, CA
Since last I wrote you,
I had a health scare, which I thought might be Covid after being at 2 international airports a total of 5 times during the Omicron surge during Christmas 2022. In hindsight that was not a smart place to be. However I did it, I enjoyed it, and I did not catch any variant of Covid. I was just tired and overwhelmed. After a couple of days quarantining and having no symptoms other than tired, I was back in good health. I was lucky.

I then spent a couple of days making Guido the mafioso squirrel for my sister and brother-in-law and packing my car, and eating some amazing food before I left like this incredible creamy rich polenta topped with sauteed spinach and mushrooms, bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise, with a fresh baked croissant and raspberry preserves Wow! We also had Ex Novo Detroit Pizza the night before I left. such a different pizza, super thick bread crust and mine had fresh marinara, goat cheese, pickeled red onions and fresh basil on it. One of my favorite meals in Oregon.

I also had to wait for a major winter storm to clear. By then it was Saturday the 8th and it was time for me to start the trek back down California to the desert to work on the next part of this adventure.

It was a very long and uneventful trip driving my 2006 Subaru 966 miles. It’s a good car, but it is not a good road trip car. It’s noisy and a very rough ride. However we did get to see Mt. Shasta with some snow on it again.Almost no snow most of my trip. I had even bought something called EasySox which are traction covers for your tires that you use instead of chains. Didn’t even need them.

Me and the dogs were very happy to arrive at our final destination on Sunday, the 9th. We spent the night on Saturday in Red Bluff at a very nice hotel, a Holiday Inn Express, where the dogs had their first elevator experience which they were not terribly fond of, however they are willing to go anywhere I go, just because. They did get a good share of attention from other guests and management, so that made it all worthwhile.

The last few days have been spent resting and settling and beginning the thinking and imagining what comes next. At this point I am not sure whether Oregon will be my home, but I still really would love it to be. It is a really, really long way away from my children and it is also going to be a very expensive move, especially now with the prices of everything including rent going through the roof! So I am open to other ideas.

This period of time seems to be a good time to explore and figure things out. I still am planning to move and so I am going to live as if. I will be clearing and releasing much of what I own and I am looking for work remotely that I can do from wherever I am. One of the things I know I can do is teach on Zoom and I will be setting up new classes in the very near future. So look for that to happen soon!

Here is where I am today. Am I glad I went to Oregon, had the experiences I did? Absolutely! I would not change any of it. I rediscovered some pieces of myself that had been buried and I learned many new things as well. I am grateful for the love and support I was given which has helped me grow and move forward and I hope I was a blessing in some way to those people as well. I am grateful for all the people I met and worked with, and my life will change and be better because of it. I know that the next opportunity will present itself soon and I will be ready for the next big adventure when it does.

As my life shifts, this blog will shift and you are all welcome to follow along. Hopefully you gain some inspiration from my ramblings and I appreciate you all!

Have a happy day
Cheryl

Thank you for taking a little time to get to know me. Making art has been my life, I love to tell stories through words and pictures. I am a multi-media artist working in photography, watercolor, various drawing media, and sometimes digital art.

  1. Welcome Home!! Yep, time for a reevaluation of past and present experiences. I’m with the focus of downsizing my stuff. Need to do this no matter where we are. Bob and I are slowly working on our house. A friend, Cam Alden started the New Year with a bang and is a rehab facility in Riverside. Been helping her by taking care of some home concerns, mail, etc. She’s doing well, but has a way to go. Meanwhile let’s do some art together when you are ready. Going to participate with Maturango Museum Artifacts. Are you? Can sign up.

  2. I believe we draw our selected Artifact item Jan. 23 – see what the curators selected.
Yes, Cam fell playing pickleball and broke the ball on the femur that fits in hip socket and the two forearm bones all on left side. Surgery for femur. Splinted for arm. She is doing well with PT in Riverside.
