You are the Pebble the World Needs

It is the day before Thanksgiving here in the United States, and all of the bloggers I read are offering ways to get through what is always a trying holiday for some and this year it is more trying for many of us.

This has been an unprecedented year for change and disruption the world over. Wars, changes in governments, climate change causing disasters that are changing the land and seascape of this entire world. We are all exhausted and sad for many reasons and we are worried about the future of our planet. It is sometimes difficult to find positive things to be thankful for if you look at the big picture. Especially when you yourself are thinking about what possible good you could make in the midst of so much tumult.

Well a few years ago I was down at the beach and I came upon this small pebble in the sand which was half buried near the edge of the water where it was being covered and uncovered by each wave that came ashore. I noticed that even though it was tiny, it was making big ripples in the sand and the various elements of the sands composition were leaving colored layers in those ripples. It was fascinating and that pebble eventually became this pastel painting. I wanted to make it to remind myself that even one little stone can change the world around it. I often feel like that little stone, being inundated with all life chooses to throw at me and that is why I started documenting in my journal things I was grateful for everyday. So that I could remind myself that there is good in this world every single day. It also reminds me that I can make a difference in this world even though it may only be a smile, a compliment or a kindness I can do for people I come in contact with everyday.

Tomorrow may or may not be a day you can spend with your family, however I would suggest that you find at least one friend or even a stranger you can share some gratitude with. I also suggest that you give yourself a gift and be grateful for who you are and that you are meant to be here at this time in history because you have something the world needs now and it is counting on you to share it. The world needs all the love it can get right now and each of us has the ability to make a ripple in the sand.
Happy Thanksgiving and Have a Happy Day!
