Dear America

Dear America

Just checking in
I’m worried about you
I hear you aren’t doing well.
Fascism knocked on your door
I hope you didn’t let it in.

We know democracy isn’t perfect
Always a work in progress
Built as a scaffold for humanity
The constitution gives us the tools to grow
more perfect with age
Created by enlightened men
In an age when only white privilege was the norm.

As humanity became more expansive
So did the understanding that rights of life and liberty
Were meant for more
A system that supports it’s people
That is run by the people for the people.
Not for the benefit of a king or tyrant
But actually for the people.

I know you wanted change
But you elected a felon, a traitor, and a liar
Someone you say, tells it like it is
He doesn’t want what you want
He only wants to destroy it all
Bankrupt the system and steal the spoils
You are not his problem and he cares not
Who or what he destroys in the process

Do you see that your way of life is dying
Do you care
Maybe you will when it becomes personal
Will you fight back before it’s too late
Or will you let the rich and belligerent
Take away all you have worked and fought for

Freedom of religion, freedom to love who you choose
Freedom to be yourself
Protections for all to live life to the fullest
Now ignored, displaced, and criminalized

Veterans and their families
Who have fought to keep your country safe
Now unable to get the healthcare or life supports they were promised

Affordable healthcare for young and old
Immunizations, cancer treatments
What happened to healthy bodies support a better society

Young businesses who have been the backbone of your nation
Now unable to get the raw materials
At a reasonable price
Because unnecessary tariffs are now in place

Immigrants who hope for a better life and come to your shores
On the promise that they can help to make America stronger
Now being thrown out of the country
Even though they followed the rules, got the green cards and visas

Your home, your American dream
Lost in a flood, a fire, or a storm
What will you do when FEMA is no more
Will your insurance pay up
Or just find a reason to cancel you

The environment you live in
America the Beautiful
Fresh air, clean water
Chemical free foods
Now everything is seen as raw materials
Your health no longer counts as important

Your Allies who have had your backs
For the last 80 years
Now no longer respected
Left to fend for themselves
Your Fascist felon-in-charge supports
Only dictators, tyrants, and criminals.

Will you wait until it is all dead and buried
Once its gone there may be no turning back
You were the role model for the world
The time to fight is now before its to late

America I implore you
It’s time to wake up

I know this is dark, but we are in the midst of dark times. This is not a time for us to just ignore what’s happening, or assume someone else will fix it. We have to fix it. This is our country. Tearing it all down and letting one incompetent ruler or 2 if you count his sidekick tech bro, will not fix the things that need changed.

People all over the world are dealing with the same struggle and they are doing massive protests against the authoritarians who are trying to steal their countries. Hungary, Poland, Romania just to name a few. We need to do the same. There are protests being organized look for one you can support. If you can’t get out and march yourself, give financial support, or vocal support. Call congress everyday we need to keep letting our representatives know that they need to stand strong and fight for us, not cave in to save their jobs.

Other ways to protest- boycott companies that support this new regime. If you are an artist like me, use your art, your creativity to make your protest known. Support groups who are under attack, veterans, immigrants, LGBTQ, people of color, Native Americans. All of these groups who have contributed to our American culture are being wiped off of websites detailing their accomplishments, murals are being painted over, monuments are being destroyed, history is being obliterated at a rapid rate. Immigrants who are legally here are being deported, some to foreign prisons that your tax dollars are supporting! None of this is legal and it is up to us to make it stop.

So I want to thank you for being here, for reading and commenting, if you find my work inspiring to you, maybe you have friends who might also be inspired, please feel free to share it with them.

Have a Happy Day and remember to Fight back!

Cheryl

This artwork is the third in a series of digital compositions that tell the stories of the current destruction of the United States that we are currently experiencing here. Each one is created from mostly photographs from my collection that I have put together in Affinity Photo 2 to tell a story. This one is about the death and destruction of integral and important pieces of US policy that supports the citizens and support we give to many countries through out the world. If you would like to be able to zoom in and get a better look or learn about signed limited edition prints of this or some of my other images in this series, you can go to my website here.

Thank you for taking a little time to get to know me. Making art has been my life, I love to tell stories through words and pictures. I am a multi-media artist working in photography, watercolor, various drawing media, and sometimes digital art.

    1. I think most Americans including me, are still just stunned by the audacity and the speed of what’s going on. Even most Republicans do not approve. We just have to wake up out of this stupor and get busy doing what we need to do.

      1. What happening in the detention centres is awful and inhumane. As we prise Europeans falsely imprisoned in the USA, the stories thay tell sound like a police state where people can be deatined at will.

      2. Almost all of our media only covers snippets of what is really going on. Many of us look to other countries for news. There are many awful things happening and most of it is unreported to the public.

  1. Fortunately, we know it is not all of America that has gone crazy. Those of us that are unwilling to accept what is going on are organizing, are protesting, and if called for I am sure we will be willing to do a lot more to save our country. The only question I have what beleaguered condition will it be in when we finally get it back?

Your sentiment is so beautifully stated here. Thank you for giving us all a voice.
