Thoughts on Bravery

Some days, It takes being brave
Just getting up in the morning
Especially when it feels like the odds are against you.

If you ask for help
When it is needed,
And admit your not a super hero
That often takes courage.

Being brave can be
learning a new skill in a field you know nothing about,
Making a new kind of art, trying a new recipe,
Or singing a new song.

It takes a bit of bravery to put words on a page
Where someone might actually read them.
What will they think?
How will your endeavor be judged?

Just speaking your truth can be an act of bravery.

Stepping out of the safe zone
When your heart wants to leave it
But your brain doesn’t.

Standing your ground
When everything seems against you
Doing what’s right
Instead of giving in to what’s easiest
All take courage.

However, bravery is not always about might.

A gentle touch,

Listening to the other side,
Admitting you don’t have all the answers,
Finding a way to compromise,
Or even admitting your wrong,
Might be the bravest act ever.

Thank you for taking a little time to get to know me. Making art has been my life, I love to tell stories through words and pictures. I am a multi-media artist working in photography, watercolor, various drawing media, and sometimes digital art.

  1. When exposing yourself to new things or readying to voice a different point of view, the first step is often the hardest to take because you can’t take it back – especially if you have an audience. Time to face it. Just hope that you will be met with support and kindness (even with yourself). Bravery is supported with acknowledgement that it is the right thing to do and must be done – especially if you want change.
